Recent Achievements by Frome, Piddle & West Dorset Fisheries Association

  • The completion and opening of the state–of–the–art Louds Mill fish pass at Dorchester (partly funded by The FP&WDFA);

  • Annual gravel cleaning and redd counting: 44 more redds recorded in 08/09 above Dorchester for the first time; (THE FISH PASS WORKS)!

  • Continuing the promotion of river-sensitive farming methods in the upper catchment;

  • New hatch opening regime implemented at Palmers’ Brewery in Bridport, allowing Sea Trout and Salmon access to new spawning grounds;

  • Successful campaigning against the closure of England’s top Fishery Research Station at East Stoke;

  • Ongoing consultation with the EA regarding the implementation of the Frome water level management plan and the Salmon Action Plan.

STOP PRESS: New netting agreement reached in Poole Harbour. All sea trout to be tagged and released. This is part of the East Stoke Sea Trout Conservation project. From now on ALL salmon and sea trout will be returned ALIVE to the Frome and Piddle Estuaries.

The Association encourages the voluntary "catch and release" of all sea trout, especially over 6 (six) pounds.

Appeal:
An Appeal will be launched in support of The Sea Trout Conservation Project shortly. This is in conjunction with the Salmon Conservation Project. The STCP will cost us £3000 over 5 years.
